Hunger Games: Journal #1

So far in the book I have read chapters 1-6 and I had to pay very close attention because I was basically being taught a new world. If eny of you have read the first couple of chapters or read the back of it, you would know that basically there is no North America. It fell I believe and there is a new nation called Panem. I felt kind of confused for that part because they explain the new world quickly but they sort it out well. In the beginning the author tells you everything you need to know about the main character for the begining of the story, so I have no complaints there. I feel really shocked because I think that this could possibly happen to us one day. I was also shocked at how Katniss lives her life, she hunts for her family and looks after them. She is the main provider in her family. I find this has made her very distant in the book and unable to accept new things...But thats what I think in the first couple of chapters!

So basically I finished the book a long time ago so, I'm going to kind of write my review. I thought the book was amazing and perfect for anyone really! It had a lot action and some romance which I thought the author did well on writing. I can honestly say that this is one of my favorite book and I think that the school should get everyone to read it! If I had to say anything bad about it, it would probably be that it just starts really quickly, you sort of reach the climax of the book pretty fast and I think she (being Suzanne Collins) should have spent more time developing Katniss' back story. But other than that I'm super excited to see the movie, it's going to be amazing!
Answering Conflict Questions
Ten Questions for Conflict!
1) Who do you think was harder to leave behind for Katniss? Prim or Gale?
I think it was harder for Katniss to leave behind Prim because I don't think she really knows what her feelings for Gale are yet, and I think she just has more love for her sister at this point.
2) Who would've been hardest to kill, between Rue and Peeta in Katniss's perspective?
It depends on the part in the book and if Rue was still alive, I think before Rue died it would have been harder to kill her, but when she met Peeta and they sort of slowly start to fall in love it would have been harder to kill him. So it basically depends on which part in the book.
3) If you were placed in the Hunger Games, do you think you'd be able to go through with what the games want (ie killing)?
No I don't think I could because I don't do well under pressure of by myself so I probably would have died in the first 5 minutes.
4) At the beginning of the Games, all the players are put near a giant cone shaped opening filled with travel gear, food, water, supplies, weapons, etc. Would you fight for the objects, or would you start running as far away as possible?
I would fight for the objects because I would not be able to survive on my own, without food and water.
5) Why do Katniss and Gale wish to rebel against the Capitol?
I think they want to rebel because the life they have is very difficult to survive and before the games I don't think she had ever eaten that much, and the Capitol is responsible for that so having to watch your family go through that would make anyone rebel.
6) Do you think that katniss really haves feeling for Peeta, or is all just for the show, like she claims?
I think it started of as her just pretending but by the end of the book she really does love him but she just doesn't want to admit it yet.
7) Do you think what Katniss did for Rue was the right thing, or do you believe it just stirred up more controversy throughout the audience(Capitol and the Districts)?
I think it was the right thing because she was not purposely trying to rebel but I think it was very nice of her to have her own little funeral for her, and I think what she did was good because it helped people start to stand up against the Capitol.
8) Why do you think Haymitch took his time to give food and supplies to Katniss?
He did this because he thought she was the most likely to survive and he was her favorite.9) If Katniss never made that alliance with Rue do you believe she would have made it, even with her injuries?
I believe she could have because she was mostly helping out Rue but I think Katniss would have been fine on her own, until she finds Peeta.
10) The wilderness was a big conflict in the book, do you think that her method of staying alive (sleeping in trees) was a smart thing to do?
Yes because the other tributes didn't notice her as much when she was in the trees and they also could not climb as high as she did, so it ending being a survival technique.

I have to say this book is probably one of the best ones I have read in a long time. It has so much excitement and I honestly love the personality the author gave each character. I like how the author placed this book in the future it gives it a unique twist on things. The whole story is really unique, it's not your usual love story or action novel. It's in between and it's main theme is all about survival, this book shows basically how Katniss survives the games. The obstacles she overcomes the things she has to do, it's all interesting. And you can really get in her head during the book and sort of feel and understand what shes going through it's quite shocking.

So this will be my fourth journal entry about this book and I honestly don't know what else to say about it...I guess I can talk about the theme more. I really did like the theme of this book because its mainly about survival and I have to say other than Lord of the Flies I have never read a book like this. I really got captivated with the way this story was told! I kind of see life differently now and I know its fiction but I still have gotten a new perspective on things and that I should be thankful that I don't live in a small poor district with evil dictators ruling over me. So yeah I really enjoyed the book and would recomend it to anyone who needs to escape life for a while.
1) I really thought i was able to realate to Katniss as you may or may not of read my blog, but after a bit of thought I really think I could easly relate to Peeta. Peeta was describe as strong, a cook and fool for love. Surprisingly enough, I am composed of all of those traits.
